Al Hilo Editorial is a small independent editorial project founded by three female writers and publishers with a special focus on the artistry of making books and fanzines. The editorial contacted me to participate in the creation of their logo but they decided to go for another direction, either way, I still wanted to showcase what I was presenting, realising that the tone of the Editorial that I was trying to give to them was more attuned with a classical and elevated design. "Hilo" in Spanish, means "thread", "Al Hilo" would then mean "to the thread", a word that is attributed mainly in the art of sewing but for a book is what bookbinding represents. The client wanted to use a thread and a needle, literally, though it's not visible in the books we read, the hidden parts of a book belongs to the spine, there is where all the binding process took place, uncovered you can see stacks of papers folded and threaded bound by its edges - with thread and needle.
